A handful of retired Republican state lawmakers publicly endorsed Independence Party gubernatorial candidate Tom Horner on Wednesday, an event that may indicate how much of a threat the third-party candidate represents to Republican nominee Tom Emmer.
At a Capitol news conference, Horner campaign manager Steve Imholte dismissed Emmer, saying the race was between Horner and Democratic-Farmer-Labor nominee Mark Dayton, who leads in the polls. However, Horner's best polling numbers place him a distant third in the race, while Emmer sits several percentage points behind Dayton.
