Millionaire real estate developer and Georgia gubernatorial candidate Ray Boyd has put his money where his mouth is. Now the question is, will his campaign be about the money or just the mouth? Boyd has suddenly appeared on the electoral landscape of Georgia with all the subtlety of a gate crasher at an upscale soiree. If he can collect about 50,000 signatures before July 1, he will officially be an independent candidate for governor. Then comes the $2 million question: Will he actually spend that sum from his own personal fortune on his campaign, as he says he will? If he does, it may not matter whether the 67-year-old Boyd is in the game out of civic pride or mischievousness. Although he would almost surely lose the race himself, he could turn other potential winners into losers, and losers into winners. Boyd calls himself a "Ronald Reagan Republican." He says that all lawmakers – every last one – in both Washington and Atlanta should be thrown out of office.
