Eliot Cutler is Independent in name only, he is an International lawyer who recently opened a law office in China. he is employed by an international construction firm hoping to be the prime vendor on an LNG facility in washington County Maine.
Cutler has said "if Ed Muskie were alive today he would be an Independent" that is a gross insult to a Democrat of distinction who would not recognize the "politics" we have in this county today.
Eliot is genuine Independent.
In addition, he did, in fact, open his law firm’s office in China, gaining valuable insights into a country with the fastest growing economy in the world. He is not, however, employed by any construction firm, although he did serve for a time as a time as the first American board member of Skanska, an international construction firm based in Sweden, with extensive operations in the U.S.
Finally, Eliot’s comments about his mentor, Sen. Muskie, convey his belief that the Senator was a reformer and statesmen first and a partisan second. In fact, Sen. Muskie’s youngest son and namesake, Edmund. S. “Ned” Muskie, Jr., just spent three days campaigning in Maine with Eliot last week.
