The Importance of Information Sharing

From the Constitution Party's discussion forum:
Why does the national Party not share membership info with State Chapters?
We have found folks in Alabama that have been members of National for years in districts we have run candidates. However we never knew that they were out there. The last one we found was one that has really bugged me as he was my wife's uncle. Bill was in House district 105 but we did not know that and we did not know he was even interested in being a part of the CP as a result he never really got plugged into that campaign. We only lost that race by 275 votes and I have to wonder just how much Bill would and could have helped us in that Campaign had we connected DURING the campaign and not afterward??
Why does national refuse to share info on all contacts and members with the leadership of CP State chapters?? This hinders our efforts in increasing membership. Why does national absolutely refuse to share the names of all donors from within a State with leadership of that State's CP chapter? This hinders our efforts in fundraising.
Sincerely
Richard Rutledge
Constitution Party of Alabama Vice Chairman.

CA: Green Party Starts Major Organizing Push

From Green Party Watch:
Last week, in Hollywood, California, a Green Party fundraiser was held at the home of a Green Party member with an asking “donation” of $25 with the hopes of raising funds for the Green Party of California in preparation for 2012. Ximena Kaiser Morris, a Green Party leader of Switzerland, was in attendance, along with other key Green Party members.
On Friday, April 15, the Green Party of San Fernando Valley held a protest against a Tea Party protest, with the goal of showing not only the Tea Party but the community that there are alternatives and differing voices when it comes to political parties. The Green Party was joined by other like-minded citizens in protest against the Tea Party.
Los Angeles area Green Party members held tabling events throughout the week at UCLA in the spirit of Earth Day.
On April 22, President Obama visited Culver City, near downtown Los Angeles, with Green Party members attending in protest with hundreds of others protesters. People called for Obama to recognize the Armenian genocide, passage of comprehensive immigration reform, end to deportation of Dream Act students, end to engaments/occupations of of other countries, among other things.

MA: Pirate Party Approved by Elections Division

From Raw Story:
The Massachusetts Election Division has approved the Massachusetts Pirate Party as a political designation, allowing voters in the state to register as a "Pirate." The party strives to increase government transparency, promote personal privacy, reinforce the spread of knowledge through copyright reform, and abolish patents.

"We live in a country founded on the ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," the Massachusetts Pirate Party said in a statement. "For many people, those ideals are not real. The Supreme Court and Congress have expanded the power of corporations and made them more powerful than people. Increasingly government officials ignore open meeting laws, make deals favorable to corporations behind closed doors and sell off our public information to private interests." . . . .
Politics and 2p comments:
It's finally happened, and the US has it's first official Pirate Party. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts approved the Massachusetts Pirate Party for inclusion on the ballot earlier this week, meaning that it's the first place in the country where you can 'vote pirate' . . .

African-Americans Increasingly Identiify as Independents

From Black America Web:
With more than one third of the country self-identifying as independent, the balance of political power is falling increasingly to whichever way this group swings. Since the presidential run of Ross Perot, those the use of “independent” has often been shorthand for “disaffected white voter.” Dig a little deeper, though, and you’ll find more people like Gravely a part of this paradigm shift.

“As an African-American, people just assume you’re a Democrat,” Gravely told BlackAmericaWeb.com. The 30-something works in business operations at Deloitte and now lives in Atlanta. “When I talk to people, I sort of preface it by saying I’m not a Democrat or a Republican. I choose who I vote for based on the merit of their platform and what they can do for us, rather than what party they’re with.”

She was among the hundreds of others that gathered in New York last weekend to assess the 2012 landscape as part of the National Conference of Independents. Participants discussing how they could reform America’s political system came from as far west as Oakland to as nearby as Queens . . .

Red State Diarist Calls for National Conservative Party

From Red State:

It is time to establish a Conservative Party of America that will bring together all conservatives under one umbrella – Tea Party, 2nd Amendment, Constitutionalists, pro-life, pro-family, Christian, anti-terrorist, traditional marriage, private-property rights, secure borders, pro-military, pro-nuclear etc.

This would not be just another political advocacy group. It would be a whole new party to add to Democrats and Republicans. It could run candidates for everything from town council to president of the United States.

Today there is no such party. The Tea Party movement indeed represents conservatives, but it is not an official party and its focus is strictly fiscal. Even still, in its short history, the Tea Party helped to sweep hundreds of candidates into office in 2010. And we need to build on that success and that momentum . . .

CO: Greens Found Greater-Boulder Party Chapter

From the Green Party of Colorado:

Fellow Greens, I am happy to report that the aspiring Boulder chapter had a very successful meeting on Jan. 20.  We had a turnout of 14 ambitious, enlightened, and motivated people who came together to form a new and robust chapter of the GPOC.  Our meeting included past participants, new faces who heard about us from various sources including the article in the Daily Camera, and many intelligent and motivated (get this) YOUNG PEOPLE!  A new generation of active Greens yeah!  And special thanks to Bob Kinsey and Aaron Ney for making the trip and offering very valuable insight, suggestions, and support.  Even financial support!  I will never forget the formation of our treasury.  Aaron threw down a twenty, reciprocated by another and then myself.  ”Well it looks like we need a treasurer” and lo and behold Shannon volunteered and was approved by voice vote all in a matter of a couple of minutes!  You the man Aaron. . . .

NY: Green Party Seeking Volunteers

From Green Party Watch:

The Green Party State committee [NY] has established an issues committee to help coordinate state level work around issues critical to the green agenda in NY. We are looking for volunteers. Please contact Mark Dunlea (dunleamark [at] aol [dot] com) or Gloria Mattera (gmattera [at] gmail [dot] com) if you would like to be on the issues committee. Please let us know what role you would like to play (e.g., work on a particular issue, receive action alerts).

Most green work on issues takes place on the local level, so we can put you in contact as well with local Green Party groups across the state. Our success in getting back our ballot line means we will get a little more attention from the mainstream media than before. There is a critical need for a strong progressive voice at the state level, especially with Governor elect Cuomo joining in the bi-partisan effort to respond to the Great Recession with an austerity program of protecting tax cuts for the wealthy, attacking benefits for public employee unions, and slashing funding for essential public services.

Some of the key Green issues being looked at for 2011 include: a ban on hydrofracking for natural gas; education; state budget / progressive revenue options; single payer health care; climate change; and peace/ cut the military budget . . .

NY: Green Party Recruiting Mayoral Candidate

From WXXI, out of Rochester, NY:
The local Green Party is looking for a mayoral candidate - and it's opening the application process to all city residents.  The Green Party of Monroe County will be interviewing interested residents who are willing to run for the party's values, which include grassroots democracy, ecological wisdom, and social justice. This came after the City Council's denied residents a primary election. Co-Chair of the local Green Party, Vinessa Buckland, claims that this decision silences voters. She adds that Rochester would benefit from a mayor who values public participation.

Buckland says if residents become more involved in the political process, policies will reflect people's best interests in a greater capacity. "Behind closed door deals is not how the Green party operates and I think a very transparent and open government with public input, a lot of public input is very important. It's going benefit everyone. I mean the values of the Green Party are based on citizen participation. We understand that people, we all understand that we're affected by policy and I think that people don't realize that that power is supposed to rest with them." . . .

Libertarian Party Raising Money to Hire Director and Producer Travis Irvine

From the Libertarian Party blog:

We have a unique opportunity to reach out to younger prospects and recruit them to the Libertarian Party. Help us raise $50,000 by making a donation today. Travis Irvine recently ran for Congress in Ohio, and along with his campaign crew, generated videos that entertained and educated Libertarians and others nationwide. You have probably seen some of them featured on our LP.org home page. Below are some of the "greatest hits" from the Irvine for Congress weekly campaign video series:
The Kiss of Debt
The Third Finger
Apology to America
It's Time for Pizza
The Libertarian Balanced Budget Proposal
Paula Brokes Carpet Bagging Outlet
FatCat Tiberi is Really Down on Main Street
Quiz Across America
A Federal Budget Haircut
Spending Out of Control
Here's another video they just produced for us.
Imagine if our LP headquarters could provide:
  • A free library of outreach videos to our state affiliates
  • Free high-quality customizable campaign television commercials to our candidates
  • Humorous AND serious videos covering important political topics in D.C.
  • Professional quality videos of training and leadership seminars
  • Educational and outreach videos to attract new people to the LP
High quality video content is something the Libertarian Party has lacked, but it is something younger voters expect. For example, enthusiasm for Ron Paul's recent campaign for President was strongly boosted by a constant flow of dramatic online videos.
We want to know if this is something you support enough to make it affordable for the national Libertarian Party. We'll know in the next week or two based on how you respond.

OH: Buckeye Socialist Network Leads the Opposition to Newly Elected Republican Governor

A press release from Dan La Botz, former US Senate candidate for the Socialist Party, sent via email:
Supporters of the Dan La Botz, Socialist for Senate campaign of 2010 met in Columbus, Ohio over the weekend to found a new organization and launch a campaign to fight for jobs and public services in Ohio—and they pledged to resist the policies of Republic Governor-elect John Kasich. Dan La Botz was the Socialist Party candidate for the U.S. Senate in Ohio in November 2010 and received 25,000 votes.
The 23 labor and movement activists from cities throughout Ohio created the Buckeye Socialist Network (there will soon be a BuckeyeSocialist.org website). The Network’s first campaign is called DEFEND OHIO and will focus on defending public employees’ jobs and public services.
“Governor Kasich has unleashed a class war in Ohio,” said Dan La Botz. “And we intend to fight back. Kasich’s inauguration is the ideal occasion for Ohio’s working people to protest in at the Capital in Columbus and to show the governor that he is going to face four years of fierce resistance by unions and social movements.

People Fear Government Reprisals for Joining the Constitution Party?

From the Constitution Party discussion forum:
I have been talking to some people I thought might be interested in the Constitution Party. They like the platform.  Here is the part that bothers me. They are scared. They don't want to join because they are worried that the FBI will be monitoring the membership and they would end up in some investigation. To me that fear indicates that we have to try even harder. It is reprehensible that the government actually has people afraid to associate with alternative political views.
Anyone else familiar with such fears?

Constitution Party Organizing in Alaska

From the Constitution Party discussion forum:
Support New Alaska Constitution Party
Welcome to Your New Political Home, the Alaska Constitution Party!  We are your choice for a party vigorously dedicated to upholding the principles of constitutional law. We exist to uphold the Alaska and U.S.A. Constitutions. We hope to educate the public and to field and support local, state and national candidates and issues important to us. We are awaiting approval of our proposed bylaws from the U.S. Department of Justice and the Alaska Division of Elections. Once approved, we will become an official "Political Group" until we can secure enough registered voters (about 8,000) to enable us to earn the designation as a Political Party with automatic ballot status in Alaska.

Alaskan voters may register as Alaska Constitution Party (ACP) members, by downloading the Alaska voter registration form, checking "Other" box in #13 Political Affiliation and filling out the blank line exactly with "Alaska Constitution Party" as your voter registration choice, then mail or deliver completed form to the nearest election office.

KS: Libertarian Party is only party with positive growth in 2010

From Press Release Central at the KCStar:

Many Kansans are asking if the political landscape of Kansas and America has begun to change. Looking at the numbers, the answer has to be “Yes”. The Kansas Secretary of State provides voter registration statistics on their website. The data is published irregularly, and the most current published numbers for voter registration are from June 1st 2010. When we look at these statistics we find some surprising facts.
Using the most current published statistics, 2010 Year-To-Date, the only political party with positive growth in registered voters is the Libertarian Party of Kansas. Republican, Democrat, and Reform have lost voters. In the last 11 months the same holds true. The Libertarian Party shows growth; all other parties have been shrinking.

Republicans Backing Libertarians at State and Local Level

From Libertarian Republican:
There is a growing trend around the Nation of increased cooperation between Republicans and Libertarians at the state and local levels, to beat the Democrats in the November elections. There's a new found pragmatism on both sides. Local Republican officials in many instances are urging their members to vote Libertarian in races where no GOP candidate has filed. On the other side, an increasing number of Libertarian Party members on the ballot, are stepping aside and urging their supporters to back the Republican, particularly in tight races.
